More Fun With Superimposed Maps: Texas Wildfires Acreage in Chicago

The wildfires that have been burning in Texas have been sickening in the scope of their destruction. And they keep growing: 3.6 million acres (or 5,625 square miles) have been laid low by the wildfires.

We take a look at the 27 acres of Mount Bridgeport and say, "whoa." To give you a perspective of what 5,625 square miles looks like, TheAtlantic.com's Alexis Madrigal superimposed what that acreage looks like on maps of the ten most populous cities in the nation. Above is Chicago, with a reach from suburban Crystal Lake to the northwest to Michigan City, IN in the southeast.
