The Chicago French Market hosts Meet the Market, a free open house on September 17. The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes meet and greets with vendors like Mary and Theresa Nguyen of Saigon Sisters, Greg O’Neill and Ken Miller of Pastoral, and Dobra Bielinski of Delightful Pastries. Check out the contests, samples and demonstrations. While food-loving parents are busy trying every free sample (like champagne), the Wiggleworms will entertain little ones. The acoustic band The Spares also performs. The Chicago French Market is located at 131 North Clinton Street.

Chicago Public Media’s Chicago Chef Battle 2011 will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on September 25 at the Goose Island Brewery Loading Dock. The challenge is to create a dish using a Goose Island beer, and the five participating chefs at this annual throw down are Jill Barron of Mana Food Bar (and the 2009 Chicago Chef Battle winner), Chris Curren of Blue 13 and Elate, Carlos Ysaguirre of Anteprima and Acre, Leonard Hollander of Oak Park’s Marion Street Cheese Market in Oak Park, and Sable’s Heather Terhune. Tickets are $15. The dock is located at 1800 W. Fulton Street.
