The Museum of Contemporary Art is showing Vera Lutter: Studies for Ground Zero, through Sept. 12. Lutter, a German artist known for black and white cityscapes, took extended exposure photographs of Ground Zero from a building across the street. http://www.mcachicago.org/exhibitions/exh_detail.php?id=287
The Field Museum’s Ground Zero 360° features work taken in the days after Sept. 11 by Irish photojournalist Nicola McClean, along with pieces of rubble and mementos from first responders lost in the attacks. (http://fieldmuseum.org/happening/exhibits/ground-zero-360%C2%B0-0)
On Sept. 11 from 1:30-3:30 p.m., the Chicago History Museum focuses its monthly free “In the K/Now” series the impact of September 11 and how Chicagoans have changed in the aftermath. Burger Boss, Cucina Paradiso and the Oak Park Fire Department - Local 95 will join forces on Sept. 11 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The 9th Annual “A Night to Remember” fundraiser will include a viewing of the Bears game, live entertainment by Chicago Police Pipes and Drums, an auction and raffles. Lunch, wine and beer will be provided by Burger Boss and Cucina Paradiso. Over the past nine years, “A Night to Remember” has raised more than $100,000 for various charities honoring the heroes of 9/11 and this year should be the biggest event yet. Fulcrum Point New Music Project, the city’s leader in new art music and inventive collaborations between classical music and popular culture, will commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11 tragedy with 9/11: Ten Years & Beyond at the Harris Theater for Music & Dance in Millennium Park, 205 E. Randolph Drive, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. Part of Fulcrum Point’s ongoing Concert for Peace series, the concert will feature a Fulcrum Point ensemble, led by its Founder Stephen Burns, with traditional songs and prayers from the Buddhist, Christian, Islamic and Jewish faiths. Guest artists joining Fulcrum Point on stage will be the New Classic Singers, conducted by Lee Kesselman, along with Kathleen Supové (piano), Teacher Drupon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, and soloists Zeshan Bagewadi, Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi, and Saalik Ziyad. Concert highlights include works by top contemporary composers Aaron Jay Kernis (“Musica Celestis”), Arvo Pärt (“Fratres”) and Chicagoan Marita Bolles (“Buddha Girl”), along with the World Premiere of orchestral versions of works by David Stock (“3 Yiddish Songs”) and Karim Al-Zand (“Lamentation on the Disasters of War”). The 2ndStory has formatted their storytelling events into seasons and are kicking off the fall season tomorrow at Webster's Wine bar. In honor of the 10 year anniversary of Sept. 11 and using this generational time marker, Merrie Greenfield, Stephanie Chavara, Laura Krughoff and Daaimah Mubashir explore stories from a post 9/11 America. A repeat performance will be held on Sept. 12. Webster's Wine Bar (1480 W Webster).
