Vie in St. Charles is hosting a beer dinner tonight with New Holland Brewing Company. The staff at Vie recently brewed a Black Pale Ale with New Holland called "Lights Out." Black ales are all the rage these days and "Lights Out" is paired for tonight's dinner with chicken breast schnitzel, roasted turnips, fried Brussels sprouts, roasted chicken and apricot jus. It's only one course of what looks to be, on paper, an epic six-course dinner. At $75, it's also a bargain. (4471 Lawn Ave., Western Springs; 6:30 p.m. reception, 7:30 p.m. dinner; RSVP to 708-246-2082)

Bankruptcy Seminar

The Chicago Public Library's "Money Smart" series continues tonight with a seminar on how bankruptcy can help save your home, credit and peace of mind. Tragic Misconceptions about Bankruptcy will show you how to solve your money problems and how to take control of your financial future. (Logan Square Chicago Public Library Branch; 3030 W. Fullerton Ave.; 6 p.m.; free.)

Whiskey Tastings

Mrs. Murphy & Sons Irish Bistros Whisk(e)y Passport Series tonight tomorrow night focuses on Lowland malts. Attendees will be introduced to three fine examples from the Scottish Lowlands and and explanation of how the history of the region, dating back to Roman times and before, has colored its whiskeys. Snacks are included in the $10 cover. (3905 N. Lincoln Ave.; 7 p.m.; RSVP to 773-248-3905.)
