Deerhoof Unleashes Free Live Album

We miss when Deerhoof used to give their music away like it was a ticking bomb. That was back in the day before the San Francisco experimental rockers blew up to their current state of renown. But yesterday was just like old times when they dropped a free, downloadable album, 99% Upset Feeling.
The LP is comprised of 11 live tracks performed on tour and that span the band’s massive discography. What the title means - who knows? The album certainly doesn’t elicit any negative emotions. In fact, it features some of our Deerhoof faves, like “Offend Maggie,” “The Merry Barracks” and their cover of the Ramones’ “Pinhead.”
The band kicks off on tour next week and will be heading our way for a show at the Bottom Lounge Sept. 25. They’ll also be playing Pygmalion Music Festival the day before if you happen to be in Champaign-Urbana for the indie fest. For now, you can stream the album in full over at Deerhoof’s site or download it for free through Polyvinyl Records.
Deerhoof plays Sunday, September 25 at the Bottom Lounge, 1375 W Lake, 9 p.m., $15, 17+
