Morning Box Score: Buehrle's Slump Continues, Walk-Off Homer Beats Cubs

By Chuck Sudo in News on Sep 16, 2011 1:00PM

Cincinnati 8, Cubs 6

Mike Quade may be happy with the effort from the Cubs but, at this stage in the season, he's the only one. Carlos Pena and Marlon Byrd staked the Cubs to a 4-0 lead after one inning with two-run home runs each, but Randy Wells couldn't turn in a quality start and quickly was on the hook for the loss before the Cubs sent this game into extras with RBIs from Alfonso Soriano and Darwin Barney. Then James Russell served up a two-run homer to Reds rightfielder Jay Bruce to give the Reds the win.

Kansas City 7, White Sox 2

"Wait Till Next Year" officially came to the White Sox last night as their losing streak hit five games. Mark Buehrle's struggles continued. The southpaw gritted through the first five innings before the wheels fell off the train. Buehrle's line for the night: 6-1/3 innings, seven runs (six earned), 15 hits and a three-run shot served to Billy Butler. The White Sox are now three games under .500 and looking more and more like a team that wants to be anywhere but on a baseball diamond.
