The festivals increase in volume as the mercury falls. Chicago truly does try to choke the life out of summer. Here's what's on our docket for the weekend.
Chicago's Historic Route 66 Classic Car Show takes over Ogden Avenue (Historical Route 66) between Hamlin Avenue and Pulaski Road, from Noon-6 p.m. Sunday. The mission of this event is to bring car and bike enthusiasts back to “The Mother Road” while helping youth in the North Lawndale Community.
Over in Hyde Park, the 57th Street Children's Book Fair celebrates its silver anniversary with a superhero theme. Check out a selection of comics and graphic novels, as well as a variety of other super books, activities and entertainment. (Sunday; 57th Street and Kimbark Ave.; 1-6 p.m.)
St. John Fisher Parish's "Fisherfest" kicked off yesterday and runs through Sunday. Local restaurants will provide food, local bands will provide entertainment, and Mid American Amusement will provide carnival rides and games for all ages! There will be a Grand Raffle, 1st prize is $25,000. Tickets are $100 each and will be sold at the fest. Other cash prizes will also be awarded. (10234 S. Washtenaw)
