This Week in Street Fests

2011_9_23_street_fests.jpg Hyde Park will be jumping this weekend between the Hyde Park Jazz Festival and the Hyde Park Arts and Crafts Adventure

Hyde Park Jazz Festival will feature over 150 local jazz artists in 13 venues throughout the South Side neighborhood tomorrow, culminating with a jam session at University of Chicago's Mandel Hall hosted by one of the best local jazz singers around, Dee Alexander. Sunday's performances will be limited to Midway Plaisance South between Woodlawn and Ellis Avenues from 1 - 8 p.m. Download a schedule here and a map for the festival here.

The Hyde Park Arts and Crafts Adventure is a juried competition featuring artists, both local and from across the country. the festival takes place at the outdoor courtyard of Hyde Park Shopping Center (1526 E. 55th St,; 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday.)

Up north a ways in Lakeview, we have another Oktoberfest celebration with Oktoberfest Chicago at Southport and Lincoln Avenues. Benefiting St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, the festivities kick off tonight at 5 p.m. and run tomorrow from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
