Morning Box Score: Sox Seal Losing Season, Cubs Keep On Losing

By Chuck Sudo in News on Sep 26, 2011 1:00PM

Kansas City 2, White Sox 1 The White Sox' woes against AL Central opponents are one of the major reasons they've guaranteed themselves a losing record. Finishing 2011 with a 7-11 record against Kansas City best epitomizes this. Gavin Floyd held the Royals without a hit for five innings, but the sixth inning is what sealed the loss for the right-hander. A Jarrod Dyson double to right field plated Lorenzo Cain and Chris Getz with all the runs the Royals needed, while the Sox only managed an RBi single by Paul Konerko. The Sox now wrap up the season at home against Toronto. Tomorrow night's game could be the final appearance by Mark Buehrle in a Sox uniform.

St. Louis 3, Cubs 2

Randy Wells gave up home runs late in the game to Yadier Molina and Rafael Furcal to earn the loss and help the Cardinals' chances in the NL Wild Card race. Other than those two home runs, Wells was solid on the mound for eight innings. Wells finishes the 2011 campaign with a 7-6 record and rebounded nicely from some early season struggles, including a stint on the disabled list. Starlin Castro and Geovany Soto each drove in runs for the Cubs. Castro's RBI single also extended his streak of consecutive games reaching base to 37 games. the Cubs now fly out to San Diego to close out the season against the Padres.
