Another weekend approaches and another judged competition involving meat nears. Saturday Moonshine's fourth annual Rib-B-Que Smoke Out goes down from Noon-6 p.m. Last year some of the best chefs in Chicago smoked over a metric ton of ribs for 500 guests in Moonshine's parking lot. This year should exceed that, with Smoke Daddy, Prasino, the Bedford, Gale Street Inn, Socca and the Fifty/50 among the participating restaurants.

I'll be judging this year's competition along with Check Please Executive Producer David Manilow, David Burke's Primehouse Executive Chef Rick Gresh and UrbanDaddy Editor Chris LaMorte. I've added a photo of some Butcher and Larder country ribs I smoked for Steven Pate's birthday as proof of my judging credentials. There will be a judges panel winner and a popular vote winner.

Moonshine's fourth annual Rib-B-Que Smoke Out. Noon - 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at Moonshine (1824 W. Division St.). $25 advance tickets are available at Ticketweb or they're $35 at the door.
