The Koehnline Museum of Art and Oakton Community College's Women's and Gender Studies Program presents Call and Response: From Artemisia to Frida, a juried art exhibition beginning 5 p.m. Thursday and running through Oct. 28. The exhibit challenges each presenter
to engage with and react to the work of an influential woman artist. The exhibit will feature works by prominent local, national, and international women artists in a wide range of styles and media that respond in ways that honor, critique, or expand upon the techniques and/or content of groundbreaking female "masters" -- past and present. (1600 E. Golf Rd., Des Plaines)

Comedy

The Lincoln Lodge, the nation’s longest running independent comedy show, is beginning it’s 12th year with two shows on Friday night featuring special guest headliner James Adomian (Last Comic Standing, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live), as well as new Lincoln Lodge cast members. (4000 N. Lincoln Ave.; 8:30 and 10:30 shows; tickets available online here.)

Readings/Book Signings

British author Dr. Keith Sharpe discusses and signs his book, The Gay Gospels: Good News for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered People, tonight at the HArold Washington Library. In his new book, Dr. Sharpe discusses his view that there is no biblical condemnation of homosexuality and shows how the usually-cited texts demonizing gay people are incorrect. He further argues that both the Old and New Testaments provide references of gay lives, identities and relationships. Presented by the Chicago Public Library’s Pride Heritage Committee. (400 S. State St.; 6 p.m.)
