Some of our favorite photographs in the Chicagoist Photos Flickr pool are the nature shots - waves crashing against the lakefront path, birds in parks, anxious squirrels. Mount Bridgeport should be on the short list of photo subjects for you photogs out there.

Entry dates are now open for the Chicago Park District's "Nature in Chicago" photo contest. The contest is intended to highlight the biological diversity and beauty of nature within the city limits. The competition is open to four categories: waterfronts, native fauna, native flora and people in nature. The one constant is that the photographs must be taken within Chicago's city parks.

Submissions to the contest are open through Oct. 31 and can be done simply by submitting photos to the Park District's contest flickr page. Judging will take place throughout November and December with winners to be announced in January 2012.

The winning entries in each category will have their photos entered as part of a traveling exhibit next year and will also gain free admission to the 2012 Chicago Wilderness Congress.
