Last Minute Plans: The Drums

Brooklyn-based band The Drums are bringing their brand of new wave to Subterranean tonight. While we haven't seen the band before, their sophomore album Portamento released in September was a solid follow-up to their 2010 self-titled debut, and we've been looking forward to seeing its live translation.

The Drums' tunes are simultaneously dark and catchy. The infectious song "Let's Go Surfing" off The Drums was in heavy rotation during the dog days of summer 2011. While the song smacks of surf rock, as the name suggests, the band still sounds more like The Cure than the Beach Boys.

Dark and dreamy British band Veronica Falls opens. The band put out its self-titled album -- its first full-length -- earlier this year. Listen for "Found Love in a Graveyard," then add it to your Halloween party playlist.

Subterranean is located at 2011 W. North Ave. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door.
