18 years ago today Michael Jordan abruptly retired from playing professional basketball. This decision, of course, would lead to Jordan announcing more than 18 month later (via fax, remember those) "I'm back" and what we still think is Phil Jackson's greatest coaching achievement - the 1993-94 Chicago Bulls.
Stepping out of the Wayback Machine into the now: today's forecast calls for shorts and t-shirts, sitting in sidewalk cafés and porch beers, maybe even turning on a fan somewhere around your home. The high is expected to crack 80 degrees and still not a cloud in the sky. We'd call it Indian Summer but it's just way too damn early to do so.
