A 911 dispatcher talked an Elmwood Park father through performing CPR on his infant daughter, who suddenly stopped breathing. Brent Patterson worked with the dispatcher until paramedics arrived, and the three-week old was revived en route to the hospital. The Sun-Times writes:
Nick Risicato, 23, the dispatcher who took their call, said his training in various emergency scenarios immediately took over.It turns out she stopped breathing because of a congenital brain problem, and baby Amelia went through brain surgery the next day. We hope she has a speedy recovery.“This is the first (call) I’ve ever taken like this,” he said. “We train for a lot of things, and although this doesn’t happen a lot, we train for it.”
