First Lady Michelle Obama returns to Chicago next week to promote healthy eating and to attend Mayor Rahm Emanuel's summit on food deserts on Tuesday. She'll be at a newly expanded Walgreens, but they didn't say which. Then she'll be touring the seven-acre Iron Street Farm in Bridgeport on the South Side, which is also the headquarters of Growing Power, an organization focused on food-access issues.
Emanuel's food conference invites mayors from the greater Chicago area to discuss ways to solve the food desert problem and encourage stores to sell nutritious food in under-served areas of the city. Obama will deliver the closing remarks. The Sun-Times' Lynn Sweet says this is her first public event in Chicago since she became first lady.
Obama will also be holding a big-ticket campaign fundraiser next week at the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers union hall. If you want a photo with her, be prepared to shell out $10,000.
