Rapture Rescheduling

If you were Rapture ready a few months back, consider that a test run for the real thing this week. According to Rapture scholar and radio evangelist Harold Camping, the faithful will be snatched up to Heaven tomorrow.
Earlier this year, Camping reported with much fanfare that the event would take place on May 21. Followers from all over donated scores of money to purchase billboards and get the message out on radio and television. When God didn’t come calling that day, Camping was “flabbergasted.”
After suffering a stroke and spending time in a nursing home, Camping has made another warning to the faithful, but with less gravitas. According to Beliefnet, Camping said this time, true believers “will quietly receive the new heaven and Earth there’s going to be no big display of any kind. The end is going to come very, very quietly probably within the next month. It will happen, that is, by October 21.”
As for folks who are not so faithful in Camping’s message, he had a much sadder message.
“We must believe that probably there will be no pain suffered by anyone because of their rebellion against God. This is very comforting to all of us, because we all have children, and have loved ones that are dear to us that we know are not saved; and yet we know that they’ll quietly die. We can be more and more sure that they will quietly die and that will be the end of their story.”
We’ll reserve judgment on Camping’s prediction until Saturday.
