A coterie of blues musicians gathered at Buddy Guy's Legends on Wednesday to celebrate the musical contributions of blues legend David "Honeyboy" Edwards. It was basically a six-hour jam session, featuring those who had played with and learned from Edwards, the "Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen,” who passed away on Aug. 29, 2011, at the age of 96.
Wednesday's show was a tribute to Edwards, as well as a fundraiser for the Honeyboy Edwards Fund For The Blues at the National Blues Museum in St. Louis. The fund will provide scholarships to blues workshops, internships, camps and other events teaching blues history and musicianship.
Performers at Wednesday's show include Johnny Drummer and the Starlighters, Michael Packer Blues Band, Albert Bashor, Billy Branch, Ronnie and Wayne Baker Brooks, Paul Kaye, Fruteland Jackson, Fernando Jones, Rob Stone, Tim Jones, Rick Sherry, Eric Noden, Liz Mandeville and pretty much whoever else happened to jump on stage and grab an instrument.
