Bike Tour

The Eccentric Roadside Art Bike Tour is a back-alley, neighborhood-centric bike tour through the North side of Chicago presented by Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art and Chicago Neighborhood Bike Tours. The 12 mile tour will take bicyclists under freeways, alongside viaducts, and through parks to show the most fascinating artwork some may have never seen, with an emphasis on the eccentric: architectural curiosities, funky hand painted signs, intriguing murals and memorials, peculiar decorations in community gardens and bizarre yard art. The tour start at Intuit (756 N. Milwaukee Ave.) at 1 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $15 for Intuit Members and $20 for non-members. (For Chicago Neighborhood Bike Tour subscribers, this ride is included.)

Fundraiser

Vecco, an innovative home design tool for creating unique carpet transformations and the Urban Gateways Center for Arts Education host “Cut A Rug” - a local fundraiser featuring DJs, dancing, cocktails, food and live entertainment. Guests will have a chance to bid on a Chicago-inspired rug designed by six Urban Gateways resident artists, which will be auctioned to support arts education in Chicago. Urban Gateways is a community leader in the quest to provide equal access to the arts for all Chicago-area youth. The proceeds of the auction will benefit Urban Gateways’ mission of providing arts education to all children. Purchase tickets here for $10 in advance or $20 at the door. (Vecco Design Studio, 912 W. Armitage, 6-9 p.m. Oct. 27)

Literary Reading/Book Signing

The Chicago Way, a new local literary series, celebrates the release of bestselling author Jamie Freveletti’s newest thriller, The Ninth Day with an interactive book release party 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hidden Shamrock (2723 N. Halsted). Local author Bryan Gruley (Starvation Lake: A Mystery and Hanging Tree) is the special guest for the evening, which will feature readings by both authors and a live joint interview with both.
We’ll also have an interactive Chicago-crime themed interactive game with prizes and a book signing. The Book Cellar will be in attendance with copies of the authors’ books.
