Do This: Fountainhead's "It Might Get Wet" Beer Tasting

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Oct 24, 2011 9:45PM

2011_10_24_sticky_fat.jpg It's harvest ale season, which for some means popping the top of some wet hopped ales: beers brewed with fresh cut (aka "wet") hops from the autumn harvest. Depending on the hop varietal this can lead of intense aromatics, spice, bitterness or all three. Half Acre's Sticky Fat, made with fresh harvested California hop cones, is an example. So are Three Floyds' Broo Doo, New Holland's Hopivore and the beers from Two Brothers' "Heavy Handed" line. Wet hopped beers are a recent discovery in America: Sierra Nevada brewed the first wet hopped ale in the U.S. in 1996 with its Harvest Ale.

Tomorrow night at the Fountainhead Beer director Phil Kuhl has put together a very impressive lineup of wet hopped harvest ales for the North Center bar's "It Might Get Wet" event from 4-7 p.m. Broo Doo, Sticky Fat, Hopivore and the Two Brothers Heavy Handed beers are on the list. So are selections from Sierra Nevada, Port Brewing, Great Divide and Victory. In total, a dozen wet hopped beers will be on draft and a cask of Two Brothers Heavy Handed Cascade will be tapped.
