The Chicago Bears released underperforming safety Chris Harris this morning. Harris confirmed his release a few minutes ago on Twitter.

Harris was drafted by the Bears in 2006, started for the team in Super Bowl XLI and intercepted Colts quarterback Peyton Manning in the loss. He was later traded to the Carolina Panthers for a fifth-round draft pick and traded back to the Bears last season. Harris had a career-high five interceptions last season. This season Harris has been battling injuries and has looked slower on the field. He was benched during the Bears win against Minnesota but was back in the starting lineup for the team's win against Tampa Bay.

The Bears have brought in safeties to work out this week, telegraphing today's release of Harris.
