Frustrated after their Friday loss to Carolina, the Blackhawks took their aggression out on the Blue Jackets Saturday night. Viktor Stalberg, out early in the season with a knee injury, snapped a 2-2 tie early in the third period to give the Hawks the go ahead and scored shortly after to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead. The goals were Stalberg's first of the season. Ray Emery made his second start of the season and stopped 27 of 29 shots on goal against Columbus Saturday night.
The Illini and Nittany Lions played a defensive contest until the third quarter, when the Illini went up 7-0. A Penn State field goal kept them close before they scored the go ahead touchdown to make it 10-7. Nathan Scheelhaase and company went right to work and got within field goal range, but Derek Dimke's 42-yard attempt bounced off the goal post to secure Joe Paterno's record breaking 409th win, the most in NCAA Division I football. The Illini are idle next week and are looking to snap their three-game losing streak against Michigan Nov. 12.
Northwestern snapped their five-game losing streak with a vengeance against Indiana Saturday. Northwestern scored on nine of their first 10 possessions and tallied over 600 yards against the worst team in the Big Ten. Dan Persa was pulled in the fourth after three touchdown passes and 261 yards. Kain Colter also threw for two touchdown passes and had six receptions for 115 yards making him the first receiver to get both 100 yards and throw for two touchdowns in school history. Northwestern scored a record tying five touchdowns in one game.
