8th Congressional District Rep. Joe Walsh already announced his intentions to run for re-election, depending on which district his home winds up being located.
If the newly drawn congressional maps submitted by Illinois Democrats hold off legal challenges, Walsh's home will be located in the 14th Congressional District, pitting him in a primary challenge with incumbent Randy Hultgren and less of a chance of staying in Congress.
Hultgren is already anticipating such a battle and commissioned a poll from the Tarrance Group, a conservative=based polling organization, to see how Walsh's child support drama may influence voters.
Hultgren campaign spokesman Andrew Flach wouldn't release the poll's details, but said:
“[A]s far as the language is concerned, we only tested on things that were already in the media. We didn't break new ground.”
Walsh, to form, didn't take the poll in stride and accused the Hultgren camp of engaging in a push poll, since he heard from constituents the poll contained questions regarding his financial matters and the ongoing story of alleged late child support payments.
Which leads to the latest money quote from Walsh:
“If he raises his voice and calls into question who I am as a father, I'll punch him in the face, figuratively speaking,” said Walsh
As Hunter at Daily Kos noted, the whole nation is watching as Walsh continues to deflect the focus of the unpaid child support to his wife, claiming they had a verbal agreement that allowed him to not pay child support.
