Music
Africa Hitech released their debut LP, 93 Million Miles, earlier this year on the famed Warp label, and have since enjoyed critical success across the board. Their ability to transcend styles of electronic music - everything from footwork to ambient - has made them apt for just about every listening context, and tonight their cross-cultural, multi-faceted sound can be found at Smart Bar. They'll be joined by likeminded weirdists, Lazer Sword. (3730 N. Clark, 10p.m., 21+, tickets available here.)
Theater
The brand new Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center opens officially tomorrow. Saturday the theater will host tours of the $19 million space at 4450 N. Clark St. from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., while the weekend's celebration will conclude with a 3 p.m. Sunday performance of The Jackie Wilson Story, with Kelvin Roston Jr. in the title role.
Wine
It's Beaujolais Nouveau time again and Cyrano's Bistrot celebrates tonight through Saturday with complimentary Beaujolais tastings on all their menus. Today is also chef Didier Durand's first offerings of cassoulet and he'll present a giant Dutch oven full of cassoulet that will serve up to 150 people. (546 N. Wells St.)
