Let The Hairathon Begin

Returning for its fourth year, Mustaches for Kids kicked off its fundraising efforts yesterday, recruiting men to grow out their whiskers to raise funds for Chicago public schools.
The “growers” met up at Schubas last night for what they call Shave Day - when they take a razor to their lip whiskers one last time before sprouting ‘staches for a month straight. While their upper lips become stubbly forests, participants solicit as many pledges and donations as they can. The money is collected through DonorsChoose.org, an online non-profit that provides public schools with money for supplies. The growing season comes to an end Dec. 18 with Stache Bash, where growers will celebrate in their hairiness and compete for Chicago’s Sweetest ‘Stache
If you missed last night’s Shave Day - no worries. The growers will continue to meet every Monday to shave the areas around their mustaches and, of course, drink beer. Stop by to donate, get involved or just partake in the good times. You can also help out by donating to Mustache for Kids or sponsoring a grower.
