This Thursday, pastry fanatics will want to make a beeline for Cafe Des Architectes will be hosting a competition featuring some of Chicago's best pastry chefs. During "Holiday Rock and Roll," chefs will compete to create the best "buche de noel" (yule log to us mortals). All proceeds benefit Share Our Strength.

The chefs include Amanda Rockman (of The Bristol and Top Chef), Elissa Narow (Perennial Virant), Michelle and Vinny Garcia (Bleeding Heart Bakery), Celeste Campise (Spiaggia), Greg Mosko (North Pond) and Jove Hubbard (David Burke's Primehouse). Pastry Chef Patrick Fahy, who we raved about a couple of months ago, will be hosting. If you're really nice or really threatening, perhaps you can convince him to release a few of those violet macarons from their protective custody.

The competition starts at 6 p.m. and costs just $35, which includes the show, champagne, passed appetizers, live music and the chance to vote on the winner. Plus, you get a complementary subscription to Time Out Chicago for a year. What a great way to spend a Thursday night! Buy tickets online.

Cafe des Architectes is located at 20 E. Chestnut Street.
