Bennett Signs Extension With Bears

Earl Bennett can now pay back Jay Cutler for those fines Cutler covered for wearing orange cleats during games. Cutler's favorite target signed a four-year, $18 million extension today. The deal is believed to include $9 million in guarantees.
Bennett said he didn't want to wait until free agency to sign an extension and called Chicago home.
"The organization has been loyal to me when they drafted me. I just wanted to be loyal to them. They had the first shot at it, they took advantage of it, and I appreciate it."
Bennett has played only six games this season, but he's been one of the Bears' most reliable receivers with 18 receptions and a touchdown. Critics will look at Bennett's extension and scream that running back Matt Forte should be offered a new deal. But Forte's stats have dropped off significantly since the Bears' Nov. 7 win against Philadelphia as defenses have focused on containing him and Marion Barber has rounded into game form.
