Jose "Papo" Santiago
Local Latin jazz bandleader Jose "Papo" Santiago builds on the legacies of the legacies of Ismael Rivera, Luigi Texidor, Marvin Santiago, Isaac Delgado, and "El Tiburon" Morales. In his improvisations, he combines street-wise sense of humor with a unique approach to rhythm and swing. Santiago stands as an icon of the harmonious fusion of classic influences with the most innovative trends in tropical music. Santiago celebrates the release of his debut album 8 p.m. tonight at Tumbao Bar and Grill. (3213 W. Armitage Ave.)

Packer Schopf Gallery will host the opening reception for Maps, a new exhibit by David Gillanders that focuses on the natural limits of perception and the inevitable imperfection of our understanding of things. The reception runs from 5-8 p.m. Friday. (942 W. Lake St.)

SmallBar celebrates the release of its first collaborative beer, with Greenbush Brewing, Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Hyde is a Sumatran coffee milk stout coming in at 7.8% ABV. They'll also have a limited quantity of Mr. Hyde aged in bourbon barrels from Michigan's Journeyman Distillery. (1415 W. Fullerton Ave.)
