The Holiday Ball Returns To The Hideout

2011_12_08_Dave_Lacrone_Mistletoes.jpg The Holiday Ball is sort of a stunted Chicago tradition—it started back in the late nineties as a humble Christmas party at the Butcher Shop. It eventually became a large outdoor event but got too big for its own good and shut down several years ago. The event resurfaced at the Hideout last winter, and it’s returning to the intimate venue for another go this Saturday.

The ball will feature Dave LaCrone and the Mistletones, a Christmastime act comprised of Holiday Ball’s customary singer Dave LaCrone backed up by local musicians Rob Sullivan, Dan Sullivan, Joe Kaplan (all members of Arriver) and Jim Grabowski (of John Roeser Avenue). Together, they bang out their own rock- and lounge-driven covers of the holiday classics.

Patrons are encouraged to wear their “best holiday finery,” which is code for cheesy sweaters and antler headbands. Aside from a holiday celebration, this show is also a benefit for Dara Greenwald, a former Chicago resident who relocated to Brooklyn and is undergoing treatment for cancer.

The Hideout Holiday Ball is Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia, 9 p.m., $20, 21+
