Do This: Hackney's Printer's Row Chestnut Roasting

2011_12_DiGilio_Chestnuts.jpg It's that time of year yet again - the most wonderful time, according to some. The city's streets are decorated, the pre-holiday sales have brought their usual crowds and chaos to State Street and Michigan Avenue, and Hackney's Printers' Row is about to play host to one of the season's warmest traditions. Hackney's will once again be roasting chestnuts over an open (well, semi-open) fire.

Whether hot, roasted chestnuts are your thing or you've never had the pleasure of sinking your teeth into one of these tasty little holiday treats, head on down to Hackneys on Saturday afternoon for a free sample of days gone by. Though we first wrote about their annual chestnut roast last year, Hackney's has been breaking out the barbie and tongs for over a decade now. We enjoyed ourselves and the chestnuts so much last year that we can't wait to get our hands on some on Saturday.

Roasting starts at noon, but you will want to get there before they are gone. The chestnuts are free. While you are there, be sure to step inside and plop down a few bucks for a warm mug of mulled cider or some of Hackney's awesome holiday glogg to go with your treat. Trust us, you'll be glad you did! the chestnut roasting runs until 5 p.m.

Hackneys is located at 733 S. Dearborn.
