Chicago-based Americana purveyors Dastardly had their van stolen on Thursday, according to a post on the band's Tumblr page. If only there was a word to properly describe this contemptible, cowardly, craven, and despicable act!

Frontman Gabe Liebowitz (the gentleman on the right in the picture at the top) sent out an email alerting us social media nerds of the news.

As you can see, the white van has Illinois plates, and the license number is N38 7306. There are more pictures of the van, which has a distinct ink-colored detail on its side, here.

Clearly, this is a band not operating by the principles of "The Secret." By naming their band Dastardly, and not something like "PleaseDon'tStealOurVan," they invited the universe to totally bogart their free touring van. Way to go, guys.

Seriously, this is awful news, especially for a young touring band. If you've seen this van around, alert the authorities, and also write to gabe@dastardlytheband.com with the news. Otherwise? Reshare on the social networks and hope for the best. Fingers crossed.

Van or no van, Dastardly's second EP, Bury Me In The Country, will be released digitally on January 31. Their record release show is earlier that month on the 19th at Lincoln Hall. Look for first single "Fever" very, very soon.

One last pic of the van:
