The 2012 winter series of Soup & Bread at the Hideout kicks off on Jan. 4 and runs every Wednesday (except Jan. 18) through April 11. This is the fourth winter for Soup & Bread, put together by local musicians, writers and cooks professional and amateur. The event is free, but donations are accepted to support Chicago area pantries and soup kitchens. Kids welcome. To volunteer to make soup or bread or something else, email soupnbread10@gmail.com

Proceeds from the Jan. 4 kickoff event go to the Casa Catalina Basic Human Needs Center in Back of the Yards. Last year Soup & Bread raised $10,000 for food pantries and other charities. To learn more about Soup & Bread, see our interview with founder Martha Bayne from earlier this month.
