Reading and Conversation

The Chicago Way, an ongoing free reading series at the Hidden Shamrock welcomes author Charlie Newton with a reading from his new novel, Start Shooting and a conversation with Chicago author Jonathan Eig. Audience members can ask about Newton’s experiences researching his novels and the real-life characters they’re based on, his life experiences in South Africa, Palestine, Lebanon, Vietnam and Chicago, his inspiration to become a writer, his writing process, his work experiences in construction, thoroughbred racing, film brokering in the Middle East and more, and any other burning questions they might have. Local author Michael Harvey of The Chicago Way crime novel series will also co-host and many other Chicago suspense, crime and mystery novelists—as well as several guests from the Chicago police department—are expected to be in attendance. (2723 N. Halsted St. 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday)
