Unless you've been living in a cave disconencted from the outside world, you know this is an election year. At last check, the Obama 2012 campaign was on track to raise $60 million in the fourth quarter. It's part of the campaign's goal to raise $750 million for the the president's re-election campaign. Those are staggering numbers to digest.
The President will be in attendance for a fundraiser 3 p.m. tomorrow at the UIC Forum. The cheaper $45 general admission tickets have long been sold out, but there are still $100, $250 and $1,000 tickets available. The President isn't resting on his own considerablee name recognition to fill the Forum. CSI;NY Hill Harper will also be in attendance, as will Janelle Monae.
We also received a press release from Occupy Chicago. they and members of Occupy UIC will be protesting Obama's recent decision to sign the National Defense Authorization Act and intend to hold the president accountable for " signing into law a bill which allows the government to detain American citizens without due process."
“According to the NDAA, those who commit or support a belligerent act against the US can be held indefinitely, without due process,” says Tom Alter of Occupy UIC. “With wording that vague, just about anyone can be labeled a terrorist. Obama has been nothing more than Bush on steroids. More attacks on civil liberties, more war, and more deportations. All this has to end.”
Should be a fun time at Roosevelt and Halsted.
