The jogger who was critically injured when he was attacked by two pit bulls on New Year's Day says the dogs who attacked him "were not just regular dogs," and the attack cost him his left foot. Joseph Finley, 62, says he remembers everything that happened that morning at Rainbow Beach, including the shots police fired to kill the dogs. Finley said when the dogs came at him, he tried to stay on his feet, but then just had to try to survive. WBBM writes:
“Survive. Survive. Joseph, you have to survive,” Finley said. “They had a method to their madness. They knew what they were doing and they did it well and their main objective was to make sure that I was their dinner.”“These were not just regular dogs, Finley added. “They had a mission.”
After the attack, a witness said the two dogs weren't like regular pit bulls, and they attacked the man "like he was a piece of steak." He said, "It was like they were bred exactly for fighting." Finley is still in the hospital and soon will move to an inpatient rehabilitation center.
The owner of the dogs, Jimmy Johnson, was cited twice for each dog for failing to restrain them and not having city dog licenses. Johnson faces fines of more than $2,000 when he's expected in court in March. In response Finley said, "It's just a fine, but I think there should be criminal charges for this. Yes, 100 percent."
