Chicago Police charged seven in the beating and robbery of a 17-year-old that was caught on video, uploaded to YouTube and made national headlines.
Six were charged as juveniles: a 15-year-old girl, four 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy from Arlington Heights. The teen charged as an adult, 17-year-old Raymond Palomino of the 3500 block of South Hoyne in the McKinley Park neighborhood, can be clearly seen in the video asking someone off-camera to hold his gloves.
All have been charged with one count of felony robbery and one count of felony aggravated battery. The video of the beating became the Youtube sensation the kids hoped it would, but the names of those involved were leaked in the comments and on the hacker site 4Chan.
The video, which runs more than three minutes, shows the group punching, kicking and tossing the victim around hurling the racial epithet "n---er," bragging about how they "fucked his ass up," before stealing the victim's wallet, $180, and a pair of sneakers from his backpack.
At one point, the victim managed to get to his feet and plead with the group to stop before the kid in the grey hoodie and black ski mask — and delivered the most vicious blows in the attack — punched him in the face, kicked him while he was down.
The victim was treated at Mercy Hospital for a cut lip, abrasions and bruises.
