Mayor Emanuel may have backtracked a bit when he announced yesterday that library service would be restored on Monday afternoons starting Feb. 6. But for the coalition known as Keep Chicago Working, it isn't enough.

Keep Chicago working responded to Emanuel's announcement on its Facebook page that the new line Emanuel drew in the sand is only a start.

"(W)e're still pushing for FULL restoration of ALL library hours and staff."

The group is still moving forward with its "People's Library" events that kicked off a half-hour ago outside the Chicago Public Library's Little Village, Beverly and Bucktown branches. Keep Chicago Working believes there are other options for restoring library services, such as dipping into TIF funds, scaling back corporate subsidies, and asking the corporations who are supposedly going to pay the security tab for the May NATO and G8 summits to pitch in for other city services.

These People's Library events will feature musical guests, storytime, free hot chocolate and other planned activities. So brave the wet and cold and help out, if you're so inclined.

The People's Library is being held at the Chicago Public Library's Little Village Branch (2311 S. Kedzie Ave.), Beverly Branch (1962 W. 95th St.), and Bucktown branch (1701 N. Milwaukee Ave.).
