Scrap Metal Thieves Dismantle An Entire Building

Scrap metal thieves used two semi-trucks to dismantle and sell off an entire building in the Chicago suburbs. That's pretty ballsy. The thieves called the neighbors of the Shorewood building to tell them the property had been sold and will be dismantled.

Somehow it took days for authorities to figure it all out. The Sun-Times writes:

At some point, a friend called the property manager to tell her what had happened. Police were called last Thursday, a day after the trucks left.

The owner said he had neither sold the property nor given anyone permission to tear it down.

It's common for thieves to pull out and sell off parts of a building, like copper pipes and wires. This is taking it up a notch. We're reminded of the thieves who managed to steal a 31,000-pound steel bridge near Pittsburgh and sold it for scraps. Those two were caught.
