The Chicago Bears announced this afternoon that Phil Emery will be the club's new general manager. He replaces Jerry Angelo, who was fired earlier this month after 11 years with the Bears. Emery, who will be the fifth general manager in team history, is no stranger to the Bears organization—he was a scout for the team from 1998 to 2004.
For the past three season, Emery has been the Kansas City Chiefs' director of college scouting, and he was director of college scouting with the Atlanta Falcons from 2004-08.
While Emery was a scout for the Bears, the team drafted eight Pro Bowlers in seven seasons: Receiver Marty Booker (third round in 1999), kick returner Jerry Azumah (fifth round in 1999), middle linebacker Brian Urlacher (first round in 2000), safety Mike Brown (second round in 2000), cornerback Charles Tillman (second round in 2003), linebacker Lance Briggs (third round in 2003), defensive tackle Tommie Harris (first round in 2004) and cornerback Nathan Vasher (fourth round of 2004).
The Bears will be streaming a press conference introducing Emery on Monday at 2 p.m. on their website.
