The New York Yankees rummaged through the Cubs' trash and pulled out former Cubs general manager Jim Hendry. The Cubs fired Hendry in August after a few mediocre seasons. Now the Yankees are bringing him on as a special assignment scout with a multiyear deal. ESPN writes:
"We are excited to have someone with Jim's baseball knowledge, character and background join our baseball operation department," Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler said. "Whenever you can add someone with his level of experience you have without a doubt advanced your efforts."
That sounds a lot nicer than what the Cubs got from Hendry. In August we wrote, "Here’s the bottom line: Cubs fans have been clamoring for Hendry to get axed for ages." Well, it's time for another spring of cautious optimism.
