Behind the Scenes at Metropolitan Brewing

By JoshMogerman in Food on Feb 5, 2012 4:00PM

It's getting hard to hit a good bar in town that isn’t pouring Metropolitan Brewing beers. That’s why we jumped at the chance to get a peek behind the scenes at their Ravenswood facility to see the spot cranking out all that Krankshaft.

Despite a lot of interest, the folks responsible for Iron Works and Flywheel are too busy brewing to show people around much, but there are occasional tours, including two (sadly, already sold out) next weekend. For the rest of you, some pics from our phone will just have to do…

The first thing you notice is that, while it is an impressive setup, the brewery is not exactly huge. And that's the way the staff of four like it. But there is still a lot of room for whimsy. From the tanks named after obscure Star Trek characters to the massive bull head made of kegs and spare sheet metal hanging above the tanks—plus not one, but two robots—there is plenty to see. And even more to taste.
