A recent poll indicates that most Chicagoans are happy with Mayor Rahm Emanuel's job performance. However, the poll comes from the Mayor's office. Forget taking the poll with a grain of salt. Dump out the whole shaker.

The Mayor's office surveyed 600 likely voters last month and 70 percent of them were happy with Emanuel's performance so far. They did note that that is a drop of nine percent from a previous poll conducted shortly after he took office. the poll ratings are among the highest enjoyed by any politician in the country and the only politician whose ratings in Chicago higher than Emanuel's are President Obama.

Half of those polled believe the city is heading in the right direction, compared to 31 percent who felt that way in a September 2010 poll to gauge the effectiveness of former Mayor Richard M. Daley. In a sign that Emanuel is winning the PR battle with the Chicago Teachers Union over a longer school day, 63 percent of those polled said they approve of Emanuel's positions on education and three-fourths of those surveyed are in favor of a longer school day.
