The jingles for Empire Carpet and Luna Carpet are earworms that are distinctively Chicago. Now the two are under one corporate umbrella.

Empire Carpet bought Luna Carpet in a deal that closed Jan. 31. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but the two brand will continue to operate and advertise separately, and no layoffs are expected. Empire spokeswoman Marlo Michalek told the Tribune:

"Both Empire Today and Luna will continue to be managed separately and there are no anticipated changes with the Luna brand or its organizational structure," said Michalek. "From a consumer perspective, there are no changes. Consumers will still have the opportunity to shop with both brands."

Both companies started out as family-owned businesses a half-century ago and, to this day, send sales reps to customers' homes. Empire now operates in 45 metropolitan markets, while Luna has opened five retail locations. With the purchase of Luna, Empire now has access to those retail operations. But it's the jingles that we most associate with them.
