One For The Road: The Anniversary Of The British Invasion

By Samantha Abernethy in Arts & Entertainment on Feb 7, 2012 11:30PM

On Feb. 7, 1964, the Beatles landed at JFK airport and started the British Invasion that changed American music forever. Below is a compilation of news reel clips. And further down is video of their first performance on The Ed Sullivan Show which took place on Feb. 9, 1964, just two days after they landed.

When you notice the crowds' enthusiasm, bear in mind the Beatles were first played on an American radio station less than two months before. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was played on WWDC on Dec. 17, 1963.
