2012_02_rbma.JPG For many, Red Bull is simply just another option among the countless ways to get artificially energized. Take a closer look, however, and find that the decades-old company has a fondness for music and helping others create it. Red Bull Music Academy, started in 1998, is an annual conference/workshop of sorts, aimed at developing producers, DJs, and musicians in general. Attending the two-week event has become highly coveted, and applications for this year's Academy in New York City opened just last week. To celebrate and spread awareness in Chicago about RBMA, Red Bull will kick off a month-long series of events tomorrow night at Metro & Smart Bar. The first event features a stacked lineup including DJ Spinn, DJ Rashad, DJ Deeon, and house legend Frankie Knuckles.

Tomorrow's kick off will be an all-building event in both Metro and Smart Bar. Performing in Metro will be Frankie Knuckles, Michael Serafini, DJ Spinn, and DJ Rashad; in Smart Bar will be DJ Slugo, DJ Deeon, Charlie Glitch, Rampage, and Maddjazz. Tickets are just $5 in advance, and $10 at the door. The rest of the series will be every Thursday at Smart Bar from February 16 through March 8, and includes headlining slots by Fort Knox Five, Nguzunguzu, Lunice and Ana Sia. If you can't make it out to the events, all nights will be recorded for Red Bull Music Academy Radio.

Red Bull Music Academy - Chicago Sessions kicks off tomorrow, at Metro/Smart Bar, 3730 N. Clark St., 10 p.m.,, $5, 18+ (21+ for Smart Bar)
