Wine Wednesday: Weekend Wine Events

Mardi Gras may have come and gone, but if you’re up for it, here are some wine tastings to visit in and around Chicago this weekend.

Thursday:

The Poison Cup Wine Shop is hosting a wine tour/tasting at the store from 7-8:30 p.m. Proprietor’s John and Erica will share over 10 of their favorites. Cost is $25 and includes light appetizers. Space is limited. (773) 935-1325 will get you a reservation.

The Poison Cup is located at 1128 W. Armitage.

Café Marbella in Jefferson Park hosts Dustin Goldstein, the founder and CEO of The Enye Group, for a dinner featuring wines from Spain and Argentina. The Enye Group is an Illinois-based importer of Latin wines from small family owned boutique wineries. Here are the expected pairings that will be offered:

Cost is $65.00 per person, including tax & gratuity. Space is limited to 50. Reservations can be made at 847-452-2207.

Friday:

Vintages Fine Wine in Arlington Heights is tasting some inexpensive wines from 5-8 p.m. Reservations or tickets are not required. There is a $5 glass charge, which is applied to any purchase of $5 or more.

Tastings on Friday will include:

Alamos Torrontes $9.99
Light and crisp with enchanting floral aromas and flavors of stone fruit and spice.

Fleur du Cap Chardonnay $10.99
Off dry and medium bodied with flavors of apricot, citrus, melon, apple, butterscotch, vanilla, and oak.

MacMurray Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir $21.99
Light and off-dry with abundant flavors of cherry, raspberry, and strawberry with hints of cedar.

Castle Rock Petite Verdot $12.99
Medium-bodied and off-dry with abundant currant and cherry flavors with tones of coffee and spice.

Chateau Etang des Colombes Cuvee Tradition $14.99
Full-bodied and dry with flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, smoke, and herbs.

Vintages Fine Wine is located at 12 South Dunton Ave, just south of the Arlington Heights Metra stop.

Saturday:

The Illinois Leadership Seminars will hold their annual silent auction and wine tasting at Webster Wine Bar on Saturday from 4:00-7:00pm. $35 tickets include wine tastings, hors d’oeuvres, and a chance to bid on auction items. Auction items will include sports tickets, theater tickets, hotel stays, gym memberships, etc.

Proceeds from this event go towards a leadership seminar for high school students. Pay online at the Illinois Leadership Seminar webpage or pay cash at the door.
