Argus Brewery, Jarrett Payton Make A Beer

2012_2_28_payton_ale.jpg Beer and the Payton family are old friends. One of Walter Payton's many business interests included the former America's Roundhouse and Brew Pub in Aurora, housed in the oldest limestone roundhouse in the country. (That is now the home to Two Brothers Roundhouse.)

The brewers at Roundhouse made some decent beers during their partnership with Sweetness. Payton's son Jarrett has inherited his father's love of beer and some of his business acumen. Jarrett Payton has teamed up with Argus Brewery's father-and-son team of Bob and Patrick Jensen to create a wheat ale that will have its debut 6 p.m. next Thursday, March 8, at Public House.

In a press release touting the announcement, Payton said he was involved in every step of the beers creation, from the type of beer they wanted to brew to the packaging. Payton also cited the parallels between the Jensen's relationship with each other to his own relationship with his father as a reason he partnered with Argus on this project.

Our few times sampling Argus' product hasn't left us wanting more, although they did a fine job when they brewed 5 Rabbit's beers on contract. But there's always a possibility that Jarret Payton's All-American Wheat Ale will be one of those beers that stands out from the pack of what they're doing. Here's hoping next Thursday's launch does that.
