Tortas Frontera Pops Up In The Loop

2012_2_29_TortasFrontera.jpg If Rick Bayless opens a restaurant but doesn't send out a press release, can it still serve sandwiches? Apparently, the answer is yes—reminding us once again that, if you make tasty tortas, they will come. Tortas Frontera, the sandwich shop that is the highlight of every trip to O'Hare airport, has come downtown.

Normally, we're pretty informed about openings and closings, but we hadn't walked by the Chase Building lately. Yesterday, Rick Bayless tweeted: "Loop-ers: Tortas Frontera (like airport) is now open in Urban Market of Chase Tower! Serving breakfast & lunch" and the internet exploded. Well, the part of the internet that likes tasty sandwiches.

If you haven't tasted the Tortas Frontera at O'Hare, now is your chance. We visited the original location last year, and if this one lives up to that standard, we'll be walking by the Chase Building more often. Don't forget about their breakfast sandwiches; the egg and chorizo with poblano torta calls out to us in our dreams. The whole menu is below.

On the technical side, Mike Gebert of Grubstreet brought up an interesting point—if the Tortas Frontera brand has come to the loop, how can we distinguish between it, Xoco and Frontera Fresco? Eh. Most sandwich lovers don't care. They're just happy to have another interesting lunch spot close to work.

Tortas Frontera is located at 10 South Dearborn St.
