On back-to-back nights, Chicago bar The Burlington will be hosting two different, but equally excellent genre revivalist acts from Minneapolis and Milwaukee, respectively. Gospel Gossip, a dream-pop trio from the City of Lakes, plays tonight, while Catacombz, the brew town's answer to Cave, stops by on Saturday.

Gospel Gossip created some hometown buzz for laid-back, pretty, reverb-heavy pop music that could turn distorted and explosive at the drop of a hat with their 2007 full-length Sing Into My Mouth. Two EPs, Drift and Dreamland, followed in 2009, both of which sharpened the band's songwriting potential and band dynamics through stronger, more direct hooks and a more strategic deployment of guitar noise. All's been quiet for Gospel Gossip since then, save for a new song, the gorgeous "Dream Awake," being released last December. Here's hoping tonight's show at the Burlington will find concert-goers discovering a treasure trove of new Gospel Gossip music.

Gospel Gossip plays with Circles and Pony Trash TONIGHT, Friday, March 2nd, at the Burlington, 3425 W. Fullerton Ave., 9 p.m., 21+, $5.

Saturday sees sauer-rockers Catacombz gallop into the Burlington. Like Cave (whose offshoot Bitchin' Bajas headlines this show), Catacombz play a rock-heavy, Midwestern variant of the German art-rock known as Krautrock. This writer saw the band play Ultra Lounge last fall, and they put on an impressive, mind-blowing, energetic live set. Their self-titled EP released last summer stands up along with Chicago's best purveyors of this new sound, like Deep Earth, Verma, Fotosputnik, etc. For keyboard-based experimentalism given guitar-and-drums drive and oomph, like NEU with 300 horsepower, it's hard to beat Catacombz. Do not miss this show. Stream Catacombz's self-titled EP below.

Catacombz plays with Bitchin' Bajas and Bad Drugs, Saturday, March 3, at the Burlington, 3425 W Fullerton Ave, 9 p.m., 21+, $5.
