Want to brag about your favorite local restaurant? Want to try to save a faltering gem? Log onto LTHForum and get ready to start arguing, because the nominations for 2012 Great Neighborhood Restaurant Awards just opened up.
Each year, LTHForum gives out the GNR awards to the best of the local restaurant scene, as voted on by their members. Let's just lay it out there: We love the GNRs. Why? Well, they tend to come out around the same time as the TimeOut Chicago Eat Out Awards, and they couldn't be more different. Small ethnic restaurants, neighborhood pubs and corner cafes can get awards through the GNRs, and there is rarely a posh hotspot on the list. It's a chance for people to give some recognition to the hundreds of small restaurants without celebrity chefs that make up the bulk of Chicago's great restaurant scene.
